Bharat Bandh: Services that could be affected today

      Today is the day of the Bharat Vyapar Bandh called by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) to protest against "draconian" rules of GST and foul play by etail giants.

According to claims made by CAIT, over 40,000 business organizations across India involving more than 8 crore traders will keep their businesses shut.

The shutdown is being backed by the All India Transport Welfare Association which represents nearly 1 crore transporters, CAIT said. It further said that the Hawkers Joint Action Committee, a national organisation of hawkers, is also supporting today's bandh.

According to a PTI report, other traders' bodies like the Federation of All India Vyapar Mandal and the Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal told have not backed the bandh call.

As many 1,500 organizations from all states stage protests against GST amendments today, CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal said.

To spare the common public the inconveniences, CAIT said essential services like milk supply, vegetable shops, pharmacies, etc. are exempt from the bandh
Banks are also likely to function as usual.

Traffic movements, however, could see some impact of the planned chakka jam.
